

Simply put, BackupLoupe is an alternative graphical interface for Time Machine that gets more out of the internal backup tool. “BackupLoupe” is a tool that also provides setting and management options for Time Machine. The tool can be started directly after the download. The tool “TimeMachineMechanic” (T2M2) helps to analyze backups and supports the analysis of Time Machine’s log files.

If “When inactive” is activated in “Backup”, Time Machine only performs a backup when the Mac is not currently in use. With “Show advanced settings” it can be specified that the backup should not start on certain occasions, for example, if there is no WLAN connection. If the intervals are to be flexible or if backups are to take place based on different events, TimeMachineEditor can be a useful way to do it.

This function can be enabled with “sudo tmutil enablelocal”. The local snapshots feature can be disabled with “sudo tmutil disablelocal”.

Individual snapshots can in turn be deleted with “sudo tmutil deletelocalsnapshots ”. TimeMachineEditor TimeMachineEditor for Mac Free In English V 5.2.1 3. The snapshots can be displayed with “tmutil listlocalsnapshots /” in the terminal. If the backup medium is not connected, Time Machine backs up the data by taking snapshots of the operating system. This can also be checked in Time Machine’s options after setup. The option “Enable power nap when power supply is connected” allows Time Machine to back up the data afterwards while in sleep mode. In the System Preferences, “Power Supply” can be found under “Battery” on the left side. It is also possible that Time Machine backs up the Mac while it is in sleep mode. In addition to the automatic backup, “Options” and “Perform backup during battery operation” can be used to specify that a regular backup should also start without an external power supply.

Backup error checking One utility to check the unified log in Sierra and later for errors which have occurred during backing up is T2M2, which is free. Various adjustments can be made in the Time Machine system settings. By far the most sophisticated and popular tool for repairing Time Machine backups is Alsoft’s DiskWarrior, which some recommend for routine preventive maintenance. If the storage space on the backup medium is no longer sufficient, Time Machine deletes the older backups. After a week, the existing daily backups are again combined into a weekly backup. Time Machine backs up the data on the Mac every hour and, after 24 hours, combines the backups into a daily backup. I haven’t tried any, but something like Backup Scheduler:Time Editor looks like it does a similar task.READ: What is Maltego? Understanding and Controlling Time Machine Intervals If you still don’t feel happy about it, then there are options in the Mac App Store. I can’t vouch for TimeMachineEditor, but beloved Apple journalist Jason Snell has been using it for some time, and recommends it, which is good enough for me. Some folks might be worried about installing an app from outside the App Store, especially one which uses an installer package like TimeMachineEditor, and therefore requires an administrator’s password. As such, it supports everything that Time Machine supports - features like Power Nap, and the aforementioned APFS Local Snapshots. TimeMachineEditor just edits the schedule. Everything is still handled by the native Time Machine service. It’s important to note that TimeMachineEditor doesn’t actually take over the backups.
